Wix becomes your domain host when you move your domain to them. This means that you can modify your domain's contact information, DNS settings, and registration fees all from inside your Wix account.
We recommend connecting your domain to Wix first, before transferring it, to avoid downtime and ensure your site remains operational during this process. Transferring a domain can take up to 7 days. Connecting a domain takes less than 48 hours.
Transferring your domain to Wix
Transfer your domain to Wix to make it your domain host. Once the transfer is complete, you can control all of your domain settings and pay for it through Wix. To move your domain to Wix, follow these steps:
(Recommended) Before you begin the transfer, connect your domain to Wix.
To begin your transfer, read the instructions, and click Start Transfer.
Enter the domain to be transferred (e.g., mystunningwebsite.com).
Select where the domain was acquired from the drop-down option, then click Continue.
Log in to the account where your domain was purchased, then click I logged in to your Wix account.
Check that your domain is unlocked in the account where it was purchased, then click I unlocked it in your Wix account.
Get an authorization number from the account where your domain was acquired, then paste it into the Enter authorization code section in your Wix account.
Click the Continue button.
Choose an extension of at least one year. Tip: If you have a free domain coupon, it will be applied instantly.
Click the Continue button.
Examine and/or change your contact information.
Click the Continue button.
Choose a privacy setting.
Click the Continue button.
Choose a payment method.
Click the Submit Purchase button.
After you complete the transaction, an email is sent to your domain's registrant contact email from wix-team@registrar.wix.com confirming that the transfer has begun. Your domain transfer might take up to 7 days to complete.
